MAD-#1 This is the first adult hyena we confirmed gender. It is a female with 2 cubs, MAD-#5 & MAD-#6. The snare on her right front foot led to the consequence of losing her right front phalanges a few days later. We don`t know when she was trapped in that snare since we started monitoring this den-site on the 30th of April 2023 and we found the snare on her foot since then. MAD-#2 We call her MAD-#2 because she is the 2nd adult we found with a snare, which is trapped around her neck. MAD-#3 We believe because of such present nipples; this is the mother of MAD-#9 & MAD-#10. Unfortunately, she was confirmed as the third adult with a snare, again around the neck MAD-#4 The last adult we identified, and so far, the only adult without a snare MAD-#5 & MAD-#6 As mothers will only allow their own cubs to suckle, we can identify who mum is when observing this behaviour. Because of this we know our two second youngest cubs mum is MAD-#1 MAD-#7 Due to this young hyenas size and fluffy coat, we out this juvenile at about is about 5-9 months old. They still suckle from their mother and are mostly still at the den. MAD-#8 MAD-#8, the MAMBO-Terminator gets the name as they were the main culprits for the state of our cameras after the first test-night. MAD-#9 & MAD-#10 These are the newest additions to the clan. First seen on the 21/05/2023 we seem to have capture the first time these cubs leave the den. Cubs are born fully black and start to develop their spot pattern from about 1 month old.
